The Sir P.J. Hartog International Hall, previously known as the International Hostel, holds a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1966. This hall was created with a specific focus on providing accommodation and support for foreign students at the prestigious University of Dhaka. The name of the hall is a tribute to Sir Philip Joseph Hartog (1864-1947), an esteemed figure who held the distinction of being the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka.
Over the years, this institution has evolved to its present status as the Sir P.J. Hartog International Hall, adapting to the changing needs of its diverse and international community. Currently, the hall is under the able leadership of Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, a distinguished scholar in the field of Islamic history and culture, who serves as the dedicated Provost.
The hall’s primary mission is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for its residents. At present, the hall is home to 117 foreign students, each with their own unique academic pursuits. Among this diverse group, 17 students are enrolled in various departments and institutes of the University of Dhaka, while the remaining students hail from different affiliated colleges and institutes.
