UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA
On 31 January a delegation led by Nawab Sir Salimullah, Nawab Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury, and Sher e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Hug met Viceroy Lord Hardinge on his visit to Dhaka (then Dacca) and raised the demand of the establishment of a University in the region. On 2 February a communique was published stating the decision of the Government of India to recommend the Constitution of a University at Dhaka.
Sir P.J. Hartog International Hall
International Hostel was established in 1966 for the foreign students of the University of Dhaka. It was named for the remembrance of Sir Philip Joseph Hartog (1864-1947), the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka. In 2001 this hostel was converted into Sir P.J. Hartog International Hall. Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, professor of Islamic history & culture is the current Provost of the hall.
